What can I do to help?

How can I help out people who are poz?

Go Vote!

There is an election coming up in a few weeks (Nov. 4, 2008). The people that win are going to set the tone for HIV education, HIV treatment -- and medical treatment in general -- for the next 4+ years. Providing a $5,000 tax credit doesn't help when you can't get insurance because of "your pre-existing condition". And a limited medical policy is of little value when your drugs run $3,000 or more per month. Take some time to learn the candidates' positions.

Get Tested

You can't be part of the solution if you are part of the problem. smiley face

20% of the people in the U.S. who are HIV+ do not know it. You expect others to be responsible. You should too. Get tested regularly.

And if you're already HIV+, get plugged in to treatment and support. It makes life a lot less stressful in the long run.

Get Educated

Take some time to read thru some web sites, take a class, or at least read some of the literature while you're waiting for your test results. There are a LOT of misconceptions out there about HIV, how you catch it and how you treat it. The more you know, the better decisions you'll be able to make for your self, your partners, and your community.

Talk With A Poz Person

Most people who are HIV+ would love to talk with someone about their experience and their views on life. You can learn a lot and get a different perspective by just taking some time to talk with someone who's poz.
